turnaround/recovery strategy & plan

The 3rd step is to reassess the project goals and to develop measures to successfully complete the project

As a 1st step, we initiated our mission and possibly carried out a hard turning manoeuvre to prevent the worst.

In the 2nd step we did a deeper dive in the project’s situation and identified starting points for a project rescue or had to accept that a project termination is the best solution for all stakeholders.

If the successful completion of the project remains realistic, now we jointly have to define what exactly „successful“ means in this context and what has to be done to achieve this goal. Here we attach particular importance to also involving the later user of the end product (internal or external project customer).

Typical dimensions are the followings which have to be potentially adjusted, re-prioritized and re-planned:

  • project objectives (scope/requirements)
  • project organization and management support
  • project staffing
  • time frame and release/completion dates
  • budget

Outcome is a detailed turnaround and recovery plan. It defines the project details, outlines what has been done so far, lists the problems discovered and describes the recommended actions necessary to successfully complete the project.
